Using NoodleBib

GETTING STARTED
  • If you would like help creating your NoodleBib account, ASK A LIBRARIAN. To do it on your own, follow these steps:
  • When you click on the NoodleBib link at Fay School, you will see the following message:

    You have been automatically authenticated into the Fay School subscription.

  • When you use NoodleBib for the first time, click the CREATE A PERSONAL ID link. You will be prompted to choose a user name and password. If possible, this should be the same user name and password that you use as your login at school. Otherwise, choose something you will remember. If you forget your user name or password, ask a library staff member, who can look it up for you.
  • After you log in, click CREATE A NEW LIST (on the top right side of the page) to start a new bibliography.
  • Choose MLA STARTER if you are in grades six through eight. Choose MLA ADVANCED if you are in ninth grade.
  • Type the title of your paper in the box labeled DESCRIPTION. Click CREATE LIST.
  • In the top left corner of the window are the words “Cite a:” and a drop-down menu that reads: <Select a citation type>. Choose the type of source you are citing and click Create Citation.
  • Take your time making choices and answering questions. Remember to choose REFERENCE SOURCE for an online database, not WEB SITE!
  • If you have questions as you enter information about your source, click on hyperlinks (underlined words) which will offer help.
  • When you have finished entering information for each source, click CHECK FOR ERRORS. NoodleBib will check your citation for common format errors (not spelling errors) and suggest changes in red print. Remember that NoodleBib is always right! When you have made any suggested changes, click UPDATE CITATION.
  • If you need to change something later, just click the EDIT icon (pencil and paper).
  • Click PARENTHETICAL REFERENCE for help citing your source within the text of your paper.
  • Each bibliography you create appears under MY LISTS.
  • You never have to save your work; NoodleBib automatically saves everything for you on their server for one year.
  • To learn more about NoodleBib, click HELP to search the KNOWLEDGE BASE for answers to your citation questions.
  • New feature: Click the ANALYSIS button to evaluate your sources!

PRINTING YOUR FINISHED BIBLIOGRAPHY

  • Click on the name of the bibliography that you wish to print. Click SAVE AS A WORD DOC.
  • Under the words Export and Print, CLICK HERE.
  • If your computer won't allow pop-up windows, you may have to CLICK HERE again. A window will appear asking whether you want to Open, Save, or Cancel. Click OPEN.
  • You are finished! Your bibliography appears in a Microsoft Word™ document, properly formatted. Print it and save it if you wish.
  • Remember to SIGN OUT when you are finished.

SHARING A BIBLIOGRAPHY WITH YOUR TEACHER

  • While you are on the page where you create your citations, click SHARE.
  • Type your name in the window that says MY NAME.
  • Type the class name in the window that says CLASS NAME.
  • Your teacher will give you the Class Name. Only this name will work.
  • Click SHARE. Now your teacher can look at your bibliography and can even give you feedback and suggestions.

USING NOODLEBIB AT HOME

  • Cookies and JavaScript must be enabled in your Internet browser.
  • Click on any NoodleBib link on the Fay Library web site.
  • You may be asked to enter a preliminary user name and password so that NoodleBib recognizes you as a Fay student. This user name and password for home access is posted in the INFO FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS folder on First Class. After that, just enter your personal NoodleBib user name and password.
  • If you have difficulty, email LIBRARY, and the first member of the library staff who reads your email will help you.
