NoodleBib for Teachers

What is NoodleBib?

NoodleBib is an online citation generator that takes care of punctuation and helps students produce a polished source list that’s correctly formatted and ready to print. Fay School has a subscription to this very useful tool, and there is a NoodleBib link on the Fay School Library home page.

GETTING STARTED

  • When you click on the NoodleBib link at Fay School, you will see the following message:

You have been automatically authenticated into the Fay School subscription.

  • When you use NoodleBib for the first time, click the CREATE A PERSONAL ID link. Be sure to choose I AM A TEACHER OR LIBRARIAN. You will be prompted to choose a user name and password. If you forget your user name or password, ask a library staff member, who can look it up for you.
  • After you log in, click CREATE A NEW LIST (on the top right side of the page) to start a new works cited list (bibliography).
  • Now you see your personal folder, which has two parts:
    • MY LISTS (your own works cited lists)
    • LISTS SHARED WITH ME (lists your students have shared with you)
  • Click ADD/REMOVE CLASS NAMES to add or remove classes. HINT: Use a unique but simple name. Students must type the name EXACTLY to share their works cited list successfully.
  • Remember that students in grades six through eight use MLA STARTER and students in grade nine use MLA ADVANCED. The default is MLA STARTER, so you'll need to remind your ninth grade students to choose MLA ADVANCED.
  • To learn more about NoodleBib, click HELP to search the KNOWLEDGE BASE for answers to your citation questions.
  • DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS

HOW STUDENTS SHARE A WORKS CITED LIST WITH TEACHERS

  • While a student is on the page where they create your citations, click SHARE.
  • Student types his/her name in the window that says MY NAME.
  • Type the class name in the window that says CLASS NAME. The teacher provides the Class Name. Only this name will work and it must be typed exactly as the teacher wrote it.
  • Click SHARE. Now your teacher can look at the student's works cited list and can even give you feedback and suggestions. Students may also create notecards on NoodleBib and take notes

USING NOODLEBIB AT HOME

  • Cookies and JavaScript must be enabled in your Internet browser.
  • Click on any NoodleBib link on the Fay Library web site.
  • You may be asked to enter a preliminary user name and password so that NoodleBib recognizes you as a Fay student. This user name and password for home access is posted in the INFO FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS folder on First Class. After that, just enter your personal NoodleBib user name and password.
  • If you have difficulty, email LIBRARY, and the first member of the library staff who reads your email will help you.
